The goal of the City of Cambridge is to lead by example by reducing energy consumption within its municipal buildings and operations. In 1999, Cambridge became a member of ICLEI’s Cities for Climate Protection program and was also an early signatory of the US Mayors Climate Protection Agreement in 2002. In the spring of 2010, Cambridge was designated a Green Community for its efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, minimize energy use, and serve as a leader among municipalities in achieving sustainability.
