Guided Tour and Exhibit: Passive House New England @ 11:00AM

Due to the popularity of the Passive House New England (PHNE) event on 19 June, a second event has been added so that all can be accommodated. Please join us for a Tour and Exhibit with Passive House New England (PHNE) on June 23th. The event will start with a welcome address by Kristen Simmons and a tour of the dasHAUS pavilion at 11:00am, followed by the exhibit and light refreshments. The exhibit will showcase New England projects that have been built using the advanced technologies displayed at the dasHAUS pavilion. Take the time to see what is being built in New England, learn more about PHNE, and connect with like-minded people. Please RSVP.

Later in the day, join Passive House New England and visit three Passive House projects that are currently in construction in Somerville, Brookline, and Boston. For more information, visit the Passive House New England website here.

The primary objectives of PHNE are educating the general public about highly energy efficient building construction and its benefits, creating connections between like-minded building industry professionals, providing continuing education opportunities, and promoting deep energy efficiency projects and programs and the Passive House Standard in particular. PHNE was founded in May 2011, by a group of architects, contractors, developers, energy consultants, engineers, and others who share a deep interest in energy efficiency and the Passive House Standard in particular. PHNE is a grass-roots, volunteer-led and run organization.

The Portland Society of Architects (PSA) is a non-profit, member-driven organization founded in 2006 to promote the progress and economic development of Greater Portland by encouraging innovation and vision in design and planning. PSA advocates for design excellence in the Greater Portland built environment while promoting fellowship within the local design community.

Between 2:00 and 6:00pm you can find numerous posters of research projects from Fraunhofer CSE, MIT and UMass around the pavilion. Learn more about the three institutions and their exciting work and connect with students, representatives and like-minded people.

Feel free to stop by anytime between 2:00 and 6:00pm and combine your visit with a tour of the dasHAUS pavilion.

The event will start with a tour of the pavilion at 11:00 am followed by refreshments and networking in the pavilion. While the expert guided tour is reserved for members of passivhausMAINE only, we would like to invite you to join the networking starting around 11:30 am. passivhausMAINE is committed to decreasing carbon emissions, decreasing dependency on foreign fuels and decreasing costs for winter heating across the economic strata in Maine. Currently passivhausMAINE has representatives from architectural firms, design/build companies, auditors, green building consultants, a photographer and an attorney. They are eager to bring more voices to the table particularly environmentalists, educators, low-income housing administrators and developers.

On Wednesday, June 20, dasHAUS welcomes a group from the Certified Passive House Consultant (CPHC) Training for a special guided tour. The class will visit the pavilion from 1:00 – 2:00pm. This expert tour will be guided by Passive House Institute US trainer John Semmelhack and dasHAUS project coordinator Meredith Marsh.

MIT Museum: Solar House Research at MIT Through the Ages @ 3:00PM

On the occasion of dasHAUS, the MIT Museum is pleased to offer an invitation to learn about solar house research at MIT through the ages on June 22^nd at 3:00 pm. MIT has a long history – over 60 years – of experimenting with solar energy. Come to the MIT Museum to take a peek into their collections of solar house photographs and plans, and chat with Museum archivists about the history of solar research at MIT.

Tour is free with Museum admission; limited to 15 people on a first come, first served basis. Recommended for adult participants.

Don’t miss the opportunity to stop by the dasHAUS pavilion for a hands-on experience of solar energy technologies and energy efficiency in buildings.

Prior to the Grand Opening on June 20^th, members of any Cambridge and Boston media outlets are welcome to visit the dasHAUS pavilion for a sneak-peak. The dasHAUS Building Technologies Symposium on June 20^th brought together representatives of research, government, and industry to discuss the future of sustainable buildings in New England and worldwide. The event featured speakers from the US Department of Energy, Massachusetts Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs, and Fraunhofer Center for Sustainable Energy Systems. Participants learned about recent developments and challenges in energy efficient building systems and took the opportunity to network with international industry leaders. The event concluded with a poster session and tour of dasHAUS.
